Bark For Life Walk

This past weekend I participated in the American Cancer Society’s Bark For Life here is Southern Minnesota. This was the first time I have ever heard of this event and was eager to attend.

So, Saturday morning my mom, aunt, and myself all packed up in our car a drove to the location. The weather was perfect for a morning hike at one of the local parks.

We arrived and first thing we did was registered. For donating, I received this purple Bark For Life bandana. After introducing ourselves I got the pleasure to meet some royalty. One of the special guest at the event was Miss Mankato herself. At first I was bashful to ask for a picture, but she was more then happy to get her picture with me. She was such a nice, sweet gal.

Before I knew it we were off. The walk was a little over a mile long and along the way they had these signs with motivating statements on them. One of the signs said, “Official Sponsor of Birthdays.”

The walk started off going up a steep hill, which then lead into the woods. Throughout the walk I noticed horse tracks along with active squirrels. If I wasn’t on a mission I would have chased a couple of them.

My favorite sign that I saw was, “Be active for at least 30 minutes a day on most days of the week!”
Before I knew it we were crossing the finish line with the other K9 and their owners. It was fun to see dog and humans coming together for such a great cause!

We headed under the shelter and mingled with others. We got talking with two ladies from the Minnesota Valley Pet Hospital. They were very nice and answered some questions my mom had.

Once the event was over, we headed home to check out the cool swag bag I got. Who doesn’t love fun stuff!

I had so much fun I can’t wait to attend next year! If you ever have the opportunity to attend a Bark For Life event I highly recommend it. For now I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Have you ever done a fundraising walk with your dog?

Looks like your Frisbee may be defective, or are those holes in it hail damage? It was a perfect day for your event! Thanks for joining the hop!

I haven't done a fundraiser walk with our dogs, but I bet Rodrigo would LOVE something like this so I'll have to do the Bark for Life event in our town.

It is so cool that you participate in fundraisers like this, Spencer! I have had 5 human family members and one dog that have passed away from cancer. I hope they find a cure one day! It looks like you had a lot of fun out on your walk. 🙂

A mile sounds like a hike of the perfect length. I took my two on a fundraising walk this summer, and it was a little too long for the pug. I nearly carried him back, and he's kinda big! But it looks like you weren't too tired at all, judging by the tiny holes in your Frisbee there 🙂

Nice swag, Spencer! I don't want to take Mr. N in a stroller but I worry about him getting stepped on so we haven't made it to any walks yet.

Sounds like a wonderful day helping a very important cause. And you look very cute in your bandanna Spencer 🙂

That sign would have been my favorite one, too! We participated in the Cesar Millan National Family Pack Walk in D.C. in 2012. It was a wonderful event!

What a great event, thanks for sharing it with us I'll have to look for Bark For Life events, we'd love to participate in one of those. American Cancer Society is such a great organization, they do such great work and are the best resource for information on cancer.
